Anita Berber

In class we have focused on this paining by Otto Dix as inspiration for our own interpretation on a partner. I wanted to focus mainly on the eyes and the lips like Berbers make-up is painted. I want to base one of my final looks on Anita Berber as I really like the face chart that I have created for my Anita Berber look and her background as a Performer in Berlin.

OWN INTERPRETATION

During one of my practical lessons we got given our painting of Anita Berber and were told to re-create how we saw her in the image on our partner.
I chose to keep the colours similar to the colours used in the painting to make it obvious that it has been inspired by Anita Berber's look in the 1920s.

Firstly I created a flawless foundation base with light contouring of specific areas. Then looking at the painting of Berber, I put a red eye shadow all over the lid all the way up to the brow. I then took my Illamasqua copper metallic cream and applied it onto the lid. I then blended these together with a deeper red focusing mainly in the crease of the lid.
I wanted to keep the lip similar to the eyes, and so I mixed together my mac lip mix in red, black and yellow to make this deep rusty red, then adding the Illamasqua copper metallic product to make the lips look fuller and to add further to the rusty red.

I really love this look that I have created and think it works really well as an Anita Berber 1920's Berlin inspired look. If I were to create this look again for a possible final image, I think I would experiment swapping the red and copper around on the eyes. I think it would look better if the eye lid was darker and the copper was above the crease.
