Cabaret

I really enjoyed watching the film Cabaret as it gave me a much better idea of what life was really like in Berlin during the 1920-30s. The diversity throughout the film based on homosexual couples, bisexual couples, and drags was really good to see as this was frowned upon for years.

 Christina Aguilera: 'Lady Marmalade'

Although Christina Aguilera's music video for 'Lady Marmalade' was originally made to reference Paris' Burlesque shows, it also has major indications to Berlin during the 1920-30's time period.
The make-up designed throughout the whole of this video, shows similrity between the make-up on the film Cabaret, and images from famous icons in Berlin around that time.

My favourite make-up look in this video is the dark blue/black and pink diamonte eyeshadow look on Christina Aguilera. This one stood out to me the most as I was watching the music video as the diamonds instantly grabbed my attention. I want to create a look using inspiration from this image for my high fashion cabaret inspired image.

Here I have designed a face chart based on Christina Aguilera's make-up. I have used a red lip with bold eye make-up which was a popular look for the Cabaret dancers. I also added some diamanté on the outside of the eyes for the stage make-up feel.

SALLY BOWLES

Sally Bowles, an American singer in 1930s Berlin, falls in love with bi-sexual Brian. They are both then seduced by Max, a rich playboy. Sally becomes pregnant, and Brian offers to marry her... All the characters are linked by the Kit-Kat club, a nightspot where Sally sings. Sally Bowles was my favourite character in Cabaret as she stood out the most from the others with her strong minded personality and amazing talents.
