My Timed Assessment

For my timed assessment Meg created a face chart for me to re-create on her face. Her theme for this look was inspired by the Cabaret dancers, although she has given it a twist and designed her hair to look like the male dancers hair was styled and also the way that she has feathered the eye brows out to make them seem bushy.

I really enjoyed creating this look as the end result looked better than expected. I managed to contour the cheek bones perfectly with the Illamasqua pink powder.

Peer Review

Peer Assessment

Meg and I were both able to get together and exchange face charts before our timed assessment although I hadn't seen any notes before the day of it but had a good idea of what I was doing as we had been through them together. Meg's notes were quite minimal and so at times I had to improvise slightly and remember how she had explained I should do it. I liked the creativity of this face chart which I had to re-create as it looked like a really clean sleek make-up look with the tight low back bun hair style.

Advice for your Designer

Meg has created a detailed face chart as I am able to see the heavy contouring easily and where the pink blusher should sit on the face. This has been done well as she has used a lot of colour and obviously shaded and high lighted important areas for me to notice. I think that the notes could have been written out clearer in more detail as I was unsure on some of the steps as the face chart looked different to the way it was described in parts. One way of over coming this problem next time would be to think more carefully whilst writing the step by step guide making it more in depth and detailed so that it is easier to under stand. I think that after receiving this feedback, Meg has learnt that she should turn up more prepared with more detailed notes of what to do to re-create her face chart and hair designs as copying purely off of a face chart can be miss leading and un-accurate.

Self Reflection

As a Make-up Artist I have made plenty of mistakes which I always take note of in order to not make the same mistake twice. From doing this timed assessment I have realised that I have more confidence than I thought I did when creating someone else's look as they may not all generally be designed in the style which I'm used to. I am quite happy with my feedback comments that Meg made whilst I applied the make-up to her face as she told me I was great at applying the make-up as she said I came across confident and prepared.

I really enjoyed using someone else's face chart and plan instead of using one of my designs as it was more exciting and interesting as I had to concentrate more on exactly what I was doing and the way that I was applying it. Something that I would like to improve on is my lack of conversation whilst I am working on my model. I feel that I did really well during my timed assessment as I managed my time well and shaded the bright pink out into the foundation.

I tend to find it hard to keep the conversation flowing when I am concentrating on my models face as I need to be fully focused so that I don't forget anything. This is something that I would like to improve on as I don't want my models to feel bored and impatient as this may become difficult.
